crenox: Titanium dioxide-demand surges

crenox concludes ECS coatings show on a positive note / Worldwide demand boom

Krefeld, April 18th 2011.
The industrial revival has led to an unprecedented demand boom for Titanium dioxide in the coatings industry. Thus concludes specialties chemicals producer crenox, a leading supplier of Titanium dioxide products, at the end of the ECS coatings show.

Counting 887 exhibitors and around 26000 visitors, Europe’s leading coatings show surpassed the previous record attendance of 2007. „Soaring worldwide demand following the global economic crisis has led to a raw material supply shortage in many industry branches“, emphasized crenox manager Stefan Schaap.

Growth in visitor numbers to the crenox booth even surpassed the general ECS growth rate: „The interest shown by pigment requiring industries was overwhelming“, Schaap added. „The number of discussions and contacts surged by over 80% with respect to the previous record year of 2007.”

Furthermore, there was a significant increase in visitors from non-coatings related industries in comparison with previous ECS events. crenox was able to record many visitors from non-coatings industries e.g. from plastics producers. The ECS was obviously seen as an opportunity to connect with suppliers in these times of dire raw material shortage. In this regard, the level of international interest was quite impressive: Visitors from 75 different countries were recorded at the crenox booth in comparison with visitors from barely 50 countries in 2007.

Titanium dioxide is the most important pigment for the coatings industry. Roughly 50% of total crenox production volume was sold into this industry in 2010. Especially the R-KB-grades and R-FD-I are very popular in coatings applications. These are products that have been used successfully in coatings applications for decades and that undergo continuous development and improvement.

The complex composition of modern paint systems leads to increased requirements on the raw materials. The crenox pallet of high performance pigments substantially fulfils these increasing customer requirements with respect to ease of formulation and quality consistency. Furthermore these pigments demonstrate excellent dispersibility, a characteristic achieved by micronization, a very intensive milling process, which leads to significant reduction of pigment agglomerates. This allows crenox customers to consistently achieve better results in paints and coatings performance.
