History
In 1957, Bayer AG built a TiO2 plant in Krefeld-Uerdingen and started production of TiO2 pigments for paints, coatings, washing powders and toothpaste. In 1998, Bayer entered into a joint venture with US chemical company Kerr-McGee. In 2001 Kerr-McGee then took complete control of the plant.
In 2006, Kerr-McGee transferred titanium dioxide production into a new company, TRONOX Inc. The Uerdingen plant became TRONOX Pigments GmbH.
In January 2009, TRONOX Inc. sought protection from its creditors under Chapter 11. As a consequence, the German TRONOX Pigments GmbH subsidiary also had to file for insolvency. Since that time, the company has been successfully continued under the management of the insolvency administrator Eberhard Stock. In May 2010, the company was renamed crenox GmbH.
