Catalysts

Titanium dioxide is used in catalysis in numerous applications because of a whole range of characteristics. They include in particular chemical purity, specific surface, reactivity, selectivity, sintering characteristics as well as consistency of product characteristics.

The titanium dioxide here acts as active catalyst in different reactions. An ecologically and economically important application is the reduction of nitrogen oxides in waste gases (SCR Selective Catalytic Reduction) from power stations and in diesel and natural gas engines, gas turbines, industrial boilers as well as in chemical works.

Other areas of application for titanium dioxide in catalysis are crude oil processing as catalyst support for hydrodesulfurization, in isomerisation reactions, in Claus catalysis and as oxidation catalyst for the partial oxidation of hydrocarbons as well as for the oxidative synthesis of organic compounds.
